Technology Help in Cirencester
TVs, broadband routers, tablets, smartphones, video calling and smart speakers. Set up and shown how to use, not just plugged in.
Most technology help in the home is less about the technology and more about somebody sitting with you while you work out how to use it. Martin visits homes in Cirencester to set up new kit, fix the thing that stopped working, and talk you through how to use it so you feel confident on your own.
What is included
New TV setup (tune in channels, Freeview, connect a soundbar), Sky or Virgin remote learning, broadband router swap when the provider sends a new one, Wi-Fi password changes, Wi-Fi extenders positioned and paired, tablets (iPad, Amazon Fire, Android) set up from new and shown how to use, smartphones (iPhone and Android) set up, contacts transferred, photos organised, video calling set up on WhatsApp, FaceTime, or Google Duo, email accounts set up or recovered, printers paired with the computer or phone, Alexa and Google Home speakers set up, smart plugs paired, a Ring doorbell or basic smart camera installed and paired to your phone, and dealing with the sudden "it just stopped working" problems.
The goal of a tech visit is simple: leave you confident using it. Not to rush through a setup and walk out. Martin will sit with you, show you the same button three times if needed, and write down the key passwords and steps in the way you prefer.
What is NOT included
Martin is not a PC repair technician. Broken laptop screens, virus removal, deep Windows repair, data recovery from a crashed hard drive, and gaming PC builds are not what he does. If the laptop needs a proper service, he can point you at a local repair shop.
How long it takes
A new TV setup is usually 45 minutes to an hour. A broadband router swap with a full Wi-Fi reset across the house is typically an hour and a half. A full iPad setup from new (account, email, photos, video calling) is usually an hour. Most visits end with 15 minutes of showing you how to use what was set up, which is the most important part.
Pricing
First hour £55, each hour after £35. Most tech visits fit within the first hour or two. If you would like Martin to come back in a fortnight to check it is still working and answer any new questions, that is fine and often worth doing for a new tablet or phone.
Common questions
Will you write down the passwords? Yes, in a notebook you keep, not on a sticky note on the fridge. Martin will talk through what to do with them.
My grandchildren set this up months ago and I cannot remember how to use it. Very common. Book a visit and Martin will talk it through with you at your own pace.
Do you fix computers? Not properly. He can help with the everyday bits but a broken laptop needs a repair shop.
