Shelving and Wall Fixings in Cirencester

Shelves, picture hanging, mirrors, curtain poles and wall-mounted brackets, fitted properly first time.

Putting a shelf up sounds simple until you meet the wall behind it. Martin fits shelving, picture rails, mirrors, curtain poles, blinds, TV brackets and towel rails in homes across Cirencester and the surrounding villages.

What is included

Most household wall-fixing jobs are covered. That includes floating shelves, bracket shelves, alcove shelves, kitchen rails, spice racks, coat hooks, picture hanging (single frames or a full wall gallery), heavy mirrors, bathroom mirrors, towel rails, toilet roll holders, curtain poles, curtain tracks, roller blinds, Venetian blinds, Roman blinds, and TV wall brackets up to a reasonable size.

Before drilling, Martin checks what the wall is made of. Plasterboard needs a stud detector and the right cavity fixing or spring toggle. Brick and masonry take standard rawl plugs. Tile needs a carbide bit and careful pilot holes so the glaze does not crack. Dot-and-dab plasterboard (common in newer Cotswold homes) is its own problem and needs longer fixings that bite into the block behind.

What is NOT included

Martin does not run cables behind plasterboard for TV installations, so the power lead and HDMI will be visible unless a socket already sits directly behind the screen. He does not fit very large or ceiling-mounted TV rigs, and does not do structural alterations to load-bearing walls.

How long it takes

A single shelf or a few picture hooks is usually under an hour. A full set of alcove shelves, a gallery wall, or a TV bracket plus blinds in the same room often fills a half-day slot. Curtain poles across a whole house can run to a full day.

Pricing

The first hour is £55 and each hour after is £35. Half a day (up to four hours) is £125, and a full day is £230. Travel is free within five miles of Cirencester. If the job needs specific brackets, rawl plugs or fixings Martin does not carry as standard, he will confirm the extra cost before buying them.

Common questions

Can you hang a heavy mirror on plasterboard? Yes, with the right spring toggles or heavy-duty cavity fixings rated for the weight. Martin brings a selection.

Will the shelves be level? Every fixing is checked with a spirit level before the final tighten. On older Cotswold houses where nothing is truly square, Martin will talk you through whether to level against the shelf or against the wonky ceiling.

Do I need to buy the brackets? You can, or Martin can collect them on the way. Let him know the make and model when booking.
