Light Fittings in Cirencester
Like-for-like light fitting swaps, lampshades, batten holders and bulbs in awkward places. Non-notifiable electrical work only.
Swapping a pendant light is something most people could do, until you are balanced on a stool trying to hold a ceiling rose and a new fitting at the same time. Martin handles domestic light fitting swaps where the work is non-notifiable under Part P of the Building Regulations.
What is included
Like-for-like pendant light replacement (an existing pendant swapped for a new one), batten holder replacement, lampshade changes, bulb replacement in high or awkward positions (stairwell, double-height hall, loft, airing cupboard, garage), ceiling rose fitted where one already exists, under-cabinet lighting swapped, and desk or floor lamp repairs.
Every job starts with the power off at the consumer unit, tested with a voltage detector before anything is touched. That is non-negotiable on electrical work.
What is NOT included
New circuits, additional sockets, consumer unit work, fuse board replacement, work in bathrooms (beyond an IP-rated like-for-like swap in certain zones), outdoor sockets, garden lighting on a new circuit, and anything else that is notifiable under Part P is work for a registered electrician. Martin will tell you if that is where the job sits, and can recommend someone local.
How long it takes
A single pendant swap is usually 30 to 45 minutes. A batten holder replacement is similar. A high-ceiling bulb replacement (bringing in a tall step ladder) is under 30 minutes most of the time. Multiple fittings in one visit work out best on a half-day rate.
Pricing
First hour £55, each hour after £35. New light fittings can be supplied by you or picked up at cost. Basic bulbs (LED GU10, B22, E27, E14) Martin keeps as stock.
Common questions
I want a chandelier where there is currently a bayonet pendant. That is usually possible as a like-for-like swap if the ceiling rose can take the weight and the existing wiring is sound. Martin will check first.
Do you fit smart bulbs and smart switches? Smart bulbs yes, they replace a standard bulb. Smart switches that replace the existing wall switch need checking first, and some installations are notifiable.
My light flickers. Is that a bulb or the fitting? Usually a bulb. If a new bulb still flickers, the fitting or the dimmer switch may need replacing. Martin will diagnose as part of the visit.
