Home Safety Check in Cirencester

A walk through your home looking for trip hazards, dim hallways, missing handrails and slippery baths. A list you decide what to do with.

A lot of falls and small injuries at home are preventable with simple changes. A loose rug, a dim landing, a missing handrail at the back door, a slippery bath mat. None of them feel urgent until they matter. Martin walks through your home with you, notes what he sees, and gives you a plain-English list of what could be improved.

What is included

A room-by-room walk round the house, including stairs, hallways, kitchen, bathroom, bedrooms, front and back doors, outside steps and paths. Things Martin looks for: loose or curled rugs, trailing cables, dim lighting on stair landings, missing or broken handrails, slippery bath or shower surfaces, high cupboards being used for everyday items, tripping lips at thresholds, smoke and CO alarms in the right places and in date, grab rails in the bathroom, keysafe position if there is one, front door lighting, and the state of outside steps and paths after winter.

At the end of the walk, Martin writes a simple list. Each item is marked with a priority (do now, do soon, worth thinking about) and a rough cost or effort. You decide what to do with it. If you want Martin to fit the things he can fit (grab rails, alarms, lighting swaps), that becomes the next visit.

What is NOT included

This is not a formal occupational therapy assessment. If you have specific mobility needs or a recent fall, an OT assessment through the NHS or social services is the right first step. A home safety walk-round is a sensible general sweep of the house, not a clinical report.

How long it takes

A standard three-bedroom house takes around an hour to walk through and discuss. A larger home or one with outbuildings and garden steps takes a bit longer.

Pricing

A home safety check on its own is £55 for the first hour, which covers the walk-round and the written list. If you combine it with another booking (a grab rail fit, a new smoke alarm, a few odd jobs), the walk-round is included free of charge as part of the same visit.

Common questions

What if I do not want to change anything? That is fine. The walk-round is information, not pressure. You keep the list and decide what matters to you.

Can you do the walk-round with a family member on the phone? Yes. If a son or daughter lives elsewhere and wants to hear what Martin sees, he will put the phone on speaker while he walks through.

Will the list name a specific product? Where it helps, yes (a specific model of grab rail, a specific brand of rug tape). Otherwise Martin keeps it generic and you can choose.
