Home Maintenance for Seniors

Light, regular upkeep of a home that is getting harder to manage alone.

A house that is looked after stays a good place to live. A house that is not starts to show it within a year. Small jobs pile up. Paint chips. Silicone goes black. A gate stops closing properly. Martin offers a light, regular maintenance service aimed at older homeowners who no longer want to handle all of this themselves.

The rhythm of regular upkeep

The service is built around a predictable visit schedule rather than one-off call-outs. A monthly or quarterly slot is booked in the diary. Martin arrives, walks through the house and garden with you, and works through a rolling list of small items. Anything urgent is flagged. Anything that can wait goes onto next month's list.

Quarterly safety walk

Once a quarter Martin does a short safety walk around the property. He tests every smoke and carbon monoxide alarm. He checks outside lights. He looks at the front and back steps for anything trip-worthy. He checks the bannisters on the stairs. He looks at the main stopcock so you know where it is. He notes anything that needs a proper tradesman, such as a loose roof tile or a boiler service.

Monthly check-ins

The monthly visit is shorter and more routine. Bulbs replaced. Batteries swapped in alarms and remote controls. Leaky taps dealt with. A door or a cupboard rehung. Furniture tightened. Picture frames rehung. The garden gate oiled. The shed door latch fixed. Small things that add up to a house that feels in order.

What usually piles up if nobody is watching

Silicone around the bath going mouldy. A kitchen tap that drips all night. A radiator that has stopped getting hot at the top. A smoke alarm that has chirped for weeks and is now unplugged on the sideboard. A curtain pole that has come down. A lock that is stiff. A garden bench that has rotted through. A fence panel leaning on next door's. None of these are emergencies on their own. All of them are easier to sort at the monthly visit.

What a visit looks like

Martin arrives at the same time each month where possible. He and the homeowner go through the list together over a cup of tea. He works through the jobs in priority order. He writes up what was done and what is pending, and leaves a short note so the next visit can pick up where this one left off.
