Flat-Pack Assembly in Fairford

IKEA wardrobes, beds and garden furniture built properly in Fairford homes and holiday lets.

Flat-pack furniture is fine once it is built. Building it is the problem. Martin assembles flat-pack in Fairford homes, at Cotswold Water Park holiday lets, and in second homes whose owners have had IKEA delivered from London and now need someone to turn the boxes into a wardrobe.

The Fairford context

A lot of the bookings around Fairford come from the Water Park. Holiday lets and lodges have a steady turnover of furniture as guests wear things out. Owners often live elsewhere and want a local person to take delivery of new stock, assemble it, and dispose of the packaging. Second-home owners in Fairford itself have a similar pattern: order from IKEA, get it delivered, then call Martin to put it together before the next weekend visit.

Brands Martin has built

IKEA is the most common. Pax wardrobes, Malm beds, Billy bookcases, Hemnes dressing tables. Also Argos, Wayfair, Made, John Lewis, Dunelm, Habitat, B and Q. Outdoor furniture from Keter, Rowlinson and Forest. Garden sheds up to around 8 by 6 feet. Trampolines. Children's playhouses. Desks, office chairs, filing cabinets.

What usually goes wrong with DIY assembly

Steps are done out of order and a panel ends up the wrong way round. A cam lock is over-tightened and the hole strips. A drawer runner is put on the wrong side. Hinges are mis-aligned and the door does not close flush. Martin has built enough of these units to spot the awkward step before it becomes a problem.

What a visit looks like

Martin arrives, clears enough floor space, lays the parts out and checks them against the inventory. He builds the unit in the room where it will live so it does not have to be squeezed through a doorway afterwards. He levels it, tests doors and drawers, and stacks the packaging ready for recycling or takes it away if you prefer.

Typical timings

A standard double wardrobe is around 90 minutes to two hours. A king size bed frame is about an hour. A three-door Pax wardrobe is closer to half a day. A garden shed of 6 by 4 is around three hours with a helper or half a day single-handed. Martin will give a time estimate when you describe the item.

Pricing

£55 for the first hour. £35 for each hour after that. Half day £125. Full day £230. Fairford is outside Cirencester so a small mileage charge is added. For holiday let owners booking several items in one visit, a half or full day is usually the cheapest option.
