Doors, Locks and Windows in Cirencester

Doors move over time. Old timber drops on its hinges, new uPVC racks in the heat, and locks eventually wear out. Martin handles everyday repairs and adjustments across Cirencester and nearby Cotswold villages.

What is included

Sticking doors planed or re-hung, hinges replaced or tightened, strike plates adjusted so the latch catches cleanly, door handles changed, internal door hanging (pre-hung or from scratch on existing frames), like-for-like lock changes (Yale nightlatch, mortice deadlock, euro cylinders on uPVC doors), new keys cut to existing locks arranged, window catches adjusted or replaced, sash window cord basics, draught excluder strips fitted around doors and windows, door closers adjusted, letter plates replaced, cat flaps fitted in uPVC or timber doors, and garage side-door repairs.

What is NOT included

Full uPVC door or window frame replacements are a glazier's job. High-security locks to insurance-specification require a registered locksmith, and Martin will refer you. Double-glazed unit replacement (when the pane has misted) is also a glazier's trade. If the lock has been forced in a break-in and is tied up with an insurance claim, a locksmith with the right paperwork is the right call.

How long it takes

A handle swap is around 30 minutes. A full euro cylinder change on a uPVC door is usually under an hour. A sticking internal door that needs planing and re-hanging can take one to two hours depending on the state of the frame. A cat flap is around two hours in a timber door, longer in uPVC because of the extra cutting.

Pricing

First hour £55, each hour after £35. Locks, handles and draught strips can be supplied by you or picked up by Martin at cost. If you are not sure what you need, send a photo of the current fitting and he will tell you what will replace it.

Common questions

My uPVC door will not lock unless I lift the handle hard. That is almost always a mis-aligned keep or a worn gearbox. Alignment is a 30-minute job; a gearbox is an hour or so plus the part.

Can you fit a snap-safe anti-snap cylinder? Yes. These are widely available and upgrade the security of a standard euro cylinder considerably. Martin can source and fit one.

Do you do emergency lock-outs? No. A 24-hour locksmith is the right service for that.
