Services
Light handyman work, errands, companionship and practical help. Mix and match in a single visit.
Most bookings are a mix. A shelf goes up, a parcel goes to the post office, a high lightbulb gets changed, and there is a cup of tea in the kitchen on the way out. The list below shows the kinds of jobs Martin does most often. If your job is not on the list, call and ask. The answer is usually yes.
Home repairs
Shelving and Wall Fixings
Shelves, curtain poles, blinds, picture and mirror hanging, TV brackets. Secure fixings for any wall type.
Flat-Pack Assembly
IKEA, Argos, Wayfair. Wardrobes, beds, chests of drawers, desks. Built properly so doors close and drawers run.
Minor Plumbing
Tap washers, leaking taps, blocked sinks, bath re-sealing, radiators bled. Small jobs only, no gas work.
Doors, Locks and Windows
Sticking doors planed, handles fitted, locks changed, window catches adjusted, draught seals replaced.
Painting and Decorating
Touch-ups, single rooms, woodwork, ceilings. Honest about what suits a handyman versus a decorator.
Outdoor Maintenance
Fence panels, gates, gutters, jet washing, garden tidying. Smaller outdoor jobs that pile up.
Light Fittings
Like-for-like light fitting swaps, awkward bulb changes, lampshades. Non-notifiable electrical only.
Furniture Moving and Rearranging
Help moving heavy furniture between rooms, rearranging a lounge, clearing a spare room.
General Odd Jobs
The bits and pieces that pile up. The things you never quite get round to. The list on the kitchen counter.
Errands and shopping
Prescription Collection
Pharmacy runs in Cirencester and the surrounding villages. Collected, signed for, brought to your door.
Grocery Shopping
A weekly shop to your list, or a quick top-up. Bags carried in, perishables put away if you like.
Errands and Post Office
Posting parcels, banking, council office, dry cleaning, recycling tip runs. Whatever needs doing in town.
Accompanying to Appointments
GP, hospital, dentist, solicitor. A familiar face for the journey, the wait, and the trip home.
Waiting for Deliveries
Sit in for a delivery slot or a tradesperson visit so you do not have to lose a morning.
Help and support
Grab Rail Fitting
Bathroom, stairway and external rails, fitted with the correct anchors for your wall type. Load-tested before I leave.
Keysafe Installation
Police-approved keysafes mounted in the right spot, with a clear handover of the code to family or carers.
Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarms
Battery alarms supplied and fitted, old alarms tested, new batteries put in awkward ceiling positions.
Technology Help
TV, broadband, tablet, smartphone, video calling. Patient, plain-language help with the things that frustrate.
Home Safety Check
A walk through the house looking for trip hazards, dim lighting, loose handrails, missing alarms. Written notes left behind.
Light Housekeeping
A bit of vacuuming, a tidy of the kitchen, beds changed, washing on. Companion-style, not professional cleaning.
How a typical visit works
You write a list. It does not have to be tidy. It can be on the back of an envelope or sent over the phone. When Martin arrives, he will go through it with you, work out an order, and start. The first hour is £55 and includes travel within five miles of Cirencester. After that it is £35 an hour, charged in half-hour blocks.
If you have a long list, the half day at £125 or the full day at £230 usually works out better. Martin will tell you which is the right call before starting.
Most visits last between one and three hours. Most include a mixture of practical jobs and one or two errands. Most end with a tea, a quick note of what was done, and a plan for next time if there is going to be one.
