Hello. I am Martin.
I live in Cirencester. I started Cirencester Handyman because I noticed that lots of people, particularly older residents, had small jobs piling up at home with no one obvious to call. The kind of jobs that are too small for a tradesman, too tricky for a friend or neighbour to bother with, and too important to keep ignoring.
The idea is straightforward. You make a list. I come round. I work through it. The list might be a wobbly bannister, a bulb in a high ceiling, a shelf that needs putting up, a parcel that needs posting, and a fifteen minute chat over a cup of tea about how the garden is doing. That is a normal visit for me.
I am DBS-checked. I carry £2 million of public liability insurance. I am happy to show both at the door. I am not the cheapest handyman in the Cotswolds and I am not trying to be. I am the one who turns up on time, does the job carefully, treats your home as if it were my own mum's, and writes down what was done so the family knows.
What I do well
Light handyman work. Errands. Companionship while I work. Practical, sensible help. The everyday stuff. I am genuinely good at the small repairs that build up around an older home, and I am patient with technology, paperwork, and people who would rather talk than be talked at.
What I do not do
Anything that needs a gas safe registration, a Part P electrician, a structural calculation, or a long ladder beyond the second floor. I am clear about my limits. If a job is outside what a handyman should be doing, I will say so and recommend someone who is the right person for it. I would rather lose a job than do it badly.
Why I do this
Because I like being useful, and because I enjoy keeping people company while doing it. I came round this work after years of helping family, friends, and neighbours with the kind of jobs that pile up. People kept saying "you should do this for a living." So I am.
